COMMUNITY EVENTS

Children’s Room at the Katonah Village Library. A Conversation with Valerie Tripp. Valerie Tripp, will visit the KVL on Friday, February 10th. Ms. Tripp is the author of all the books in the Felicity, Josephina, Kit and Molly series of American Girl books. She has also written three of the books in the Samantha series. Ms. Tripp welcomes questions and comments about your favorite American Girl books, where she gets her writing ideas and growing up in the Mt. Kisco/Katonah area. Come and meet her at our reception on Friday February 10th at 4:00pm. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Bring your American Girl dolls to meet Valerie Tripp, too! OTHER KLSD SCHOOL EVENTS

Lewisboro Circus at Lewisboro Elementary School, 79 Bouton Road in South Salem. Saturday, February 4th (snow day Feb. 5). 10AM-4PM. This fun filled carnival will have you believing that you are spending the day at the circus! There is something for everyone… The Big Top Cafe, exciting games and crafts for preschool and elementary children, inflatable obstacle course, a pocket clown, balloon animals, dancing, cake walk, fun science, children’s raffle baskets and much more! 7-12 graders are welcome to volunteer for 2,4 or 6 hours. JOHN JAY BOOSTERS

THE WIZARDS ARE BACK! Attention all basketball enthusiasts! The John Jay Booster Club presents the legendary Harlem Wizards basketball team at John Jay High School on Saturday, March 3rd. Many of our Katonah/Lewisboro teachers will take on the pros – come watch the fun and be a part of the action! There will be two games: 3pm and 7pm.

Tickets are $15.00 each and available through back pack mail. Order forms can also be found in the main office. Tickets are also available to purchase online by credit card at http://www.harlemwizards.com. A small processing fee will apply.

New this year – The Crystal Springs Shootout! With the help from the Wizards, two families will battle it out on the court to win a FREE nights’ stay at beautiful Crystal Springs Resort in NJ and attend Harlem Wizards basketball camp! Hang out with the Wizards! $10 per family – purchase a chance along with your tickets! More information found at johnjayboosters.org.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

It is that chilly time of year again! Let us quickly review our school rules for recess attire. As stated in the family handbook, please be sure your child comes to school in clothing that is appropriate for outdoor play. If the temperature including the wind chill is below forty degrees, students should be prepared to play outside wearing the following: Warm coats & Long pants. On snowy days in order to play in the snow (including sledding) students will also need: Snow pants, Boots, Hats and Gloves.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT IF A STUDENT IS NOT DRESSED APPROPRIATELY, HE OR SHE WILL BE UNABLE TO ATTEND OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES (INCLUDING RECESS)

If the temperature including the wind chill falls below twenty degrees, the students will stay inside for recess.

Dr. Louis A. Corsaro, the school district physician, has also advised KES in these matters.

JOHN JAY YOUTH LACROSSE KICK-OFF DAY

on Saturday, January 21st from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in the John Jay HS "Health Room".Join us for our annual "open house" to kick off our new season. It will be held in the health room at John Jay HS (next to the main gym & the fitness center). All registered players will receive a free gift from JJYL. Come talk to our coaches, and check out our vendors that will be present for all your equipment needs at great prices. This day also marks the last day for "on-time" registration. All registrations received after the 21st will be subject to a $25 late and/or players being put on a wait list depending on specific program registrations. Boys and girls in grades 1 through 8 and that live within the boundaries of the Katonah-Lewisboro School District are eligible to register and play. Non-2nd Grade Parent Volunteers needed for Special Person’s Day!!!!

Good afternoon, KES Parents,

Many of you have fond memories of the 2nd Grade Annual Special Person’s Day.

The 2nd grade children are busy preparing for this year’s event which is going to be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2012.

In anticipation, the 2nd Grade team is looking for four to six NON-2nd Grade parents to help with set-up the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 14th from 9:00- 9:30am to set up platters of food, put out cups and plates, and get the cafeteria all spiffy for the gathering later that morning.
A 2nd Grade Teacher will meet you at the cafeteria to provide directions.

With snow in the back of our minds, we’re also looking for four to six NON-2nd Grade volunteers to do the same on Wednesday, February 15th.
We would only need these volunteers IF there is a snow delay or cancellation on Tuesday, February 14th.

If you are a NON-2nd GRADE parent and can offer your time on ONE or BOTH of these mornings–
please send your name and contact information, and what days you are volunteering for to kespto
no later than Friday, January 27, 2012.

Results of the Pizza Party Contest!!!!!

Last night many parents attended the PTO meeting where KLSD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Paul Kreutzer provided an overview of his first six months in the KLSD, talked about the district’s future and answered questions from the parents.

A very informative night!!!! But the answer to the big question? What class won the pizza party???? It was a tie. Mrs. LaRocca’s 4th Grade Class and Mrs. Cambareri’s 2nd Grade classes had the most parents in attendance at the meeting last night and the PTO is thrilled to sponsor a pizza party for both classes!

Registration for certain ASA classes has extended until Friday!

REMINDER

Tomorrow, on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 7pm

we will have our
PTO General Membership Meeting
in the KES Dining Hall.

As announced last week, for this meeting, we are reinstituting the

KES PTO Evening Meeting Pizza Party Contest!

Plain and simple… the class with the largest representation of parents

in attendance at this meeting will win a pizza party.

In order for a parent’s attendance to "count", parents must stay for the duration of the

meeting and cannot simply sign-in and leave.

If you have not already, do not forget that registrations for before/after school activities ends THIS Tuesday. Classes start January 17th!!!!!

Also, 3rd graders are now eligible to take Guitar on Tuesday afternoons. Guitar. Grades 3-5. Whether youve never played before or are a virtuoso player, come have fun, explore, and learn to play the guitar. All levels are accepted and encouraged. Guitars will be provided. Taught by Mr. Gelfer
